UNFOLD: Postcard Design
As part of a unit called “Visual Language of Design”, I was tasked with creating a postcard design to promote an exhibition called ‘Unfold - a celebration of design through time’. For this assessment, I needed to create a design inspired by an element or principle of design, and I chose colour. The catch was that we were unable to use digital means of creating this design. Using found objects around my home, I pieced together this open-style collage of different papers and colours, revealing the words ‘unfold’ on the inside. Much like a flower opening up its petals as the sun rises, I wanted my design to feel organic and fluid.
Above is my final postcard design, showing the front and back of the postcard. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this assessment, and this pushed me to consider alternative means of approaching design, rather than simply creating designs digitally from the start.
